Kenyan international defender Collins Sichenje has officially joined English Championship club Charlton Athletic, completing a transfer from Serbian SuperLiga side FK Vojvodina. The 20-year-old centre-back has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal, marking a significant step forward in his career as he makes the transition to English football.
Sichenje, who rose through the ranks at AFC Leopards before moving to Europe, has impressed with his physical presence, defensive awareness, and composure on the ball. His performances in Serbia attracted interest from several European clubs, with Charlton Athletic moving decisively to secure his services as they strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season and beyond.
The move is also set to financially benefit AFC Leopards under FIFA’s training and solidarity compensation mechanism, which entitles clubs that contributed to a player’s development before the age of 23 to a share of the transfer proceeds. This compensation recognises the role played by grassroots and youth clubs in nurturing talent that later moves to higher-profile leagues.
Sichenje is expected to link up with his new teammates immediately as he begins adapting to the demands of the English Championship, one of Europe’s most competitive second-tier leagues. The defender will be aiming to cement a regular place in the Charlton Athletic squad and continue his development at a higher level of competition.
