CHAN 2024 Stadium Guidelines: What Fans Need to Know Before Kickoff

Football fans hoping to attend CHAN 2024 matches in East Africa will have to leave behind more than just their worries. The tournament’s Local Safety and Security Department has issued a strict list of prohibited items, ranging from noisemakers to powder substances, in a bid to maintain order and ensure fan safety throughout the tournament.

“We urge all fans to comply with stadium rules and maintain calm. Let us show up in large numbers to support the Harambee Stars and ensure a safe tournament,” said the department in an official statement.

Here’s What’s Banned at CHAN Stadiums:

  • Noisemakers: Whistles, vuvuzelas, drums, loudspeakers, and megaphones are all banned.
  • Food & Drinks: No outside food or drink will be allowed, except for baby food or items needed for medical reasons.
  • Containers: Cups, bottles, cans, and sealed containers are not permitted.
  • Powdered Substances: Items like flour or baking powder are prohibited.
  • Flags & Banners: Any materials displaying political, racial, religious, or personal identity messages are strictly banned.
  • Animals: Pets are not allowed, except for certified service dogs.
  • Electronic Equipment: Devices capable of jamming signals or interfering with broadcasts are forbidden.
  • Weapons & Hazardous Items: Real or replica firearms, flammables, chemicals, explosives, and breakable items are on the red list.
  • Bulky Items: Cooler boxes, suitcases, and folding chairs are not allowed.

Where the Rules Apply

The bans apply to all CHAN 2024 match venues across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, as the three nations jointly host the regional tournament. The safety measures come ahead of the tournament’s kickoff on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Kenya’s opening match will take place at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where the Harambee Stars will face DR Congo at 3PM.
